EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, & Retrieval System)

Companies use the EDGAR system to electronically file reports and registration statements with the SEC. This requires converting a paper or word-processing document into a universal ASCII format, a process known as “EDGARizing” the document. The filings can then be accessed by the public through the SEC’s website.
